Balloon twisting

Balloon twisting in Singapore

A balloon twister folds and locks long thin balloons into a dog, a sword or a flower while the children watch. Each piece takes 2 to 4 minutes, and nobody leaves without one.

Balloon twisting is the live craft of bending, folding and locking long modelling balloons into shapes. The twister inflates a balloon with a hand pump, makes a row of small bubbles with quick twists, and locks them together into ears, legs, a handle or petals. A simple dog, sword or flower takes 2 to 4 minutes. The children see every step, which is half the fun, and each one ends up holding a piece made just for them.

Price: balloon twisting at a birthday party in Singapore usually costs SGD 250 to 320 for 1 hour and SGD 380 to 480 for 2 hours. Larger events are priced by the number of twisters. See the balloon artist price guide.

What the twister makes

The standard set covers what most children ask for:

  • Animals: a dog, a giraffe and other simple animals
  • Swords: in one colour or two
  • Flowers: a single flower or a small bunch
  • Hats and crowns: worn straight away, which makes good party photos
  • Simple characters: easy shapes that fit a theme

A specific cartoon character, a mascot or a branded shape is a custom design. Ask for it when you book, because it takes longer and costs extra. Licensed characters may be declined for copyright reasons.

How fast it goes

One twister makes about 15 to 25 simple pieces an hour. For 20 to 30 children that is one round for everyone in 1 to 2 hours, with time for a second piece for some. If 60 to 80 or more guests will want a balloon in a set time, one twister cannot keep up, so book two or more from the start.

Roving or at a table

The twister can walk the floor and twist on the move, or stand at a small table where children queue. Roving keeps a party relaxed and suits spread out rooms and lawns. A table makes a clear queue and a photo spot, which suits roadshows and booths. Read more on roving balloon artists and on balloon sculpting stations.

Twisting for each age

Toddlers and children of 3 to 5 are happiest with a simple animal or a flower, and a small group keeps the noise down. Children of 6 to 9 want more detailed pieces and like to watch them come together. Tell the team the full age range, not only the age of the birthday child, so the twister plans the right designs.

What is included

A standard booking covers the twister's time for the full slot, all the balloons and materials, travel within Singapore and setup. The twister arrives 15 to 30 minutes early. For an outdoor event or one near water, ask about biodegradable latex.
