To hire a balloon artist in Singapore, count how many guests will want a balloon, book enough artists and hours for that number, choose roving or a station, clear a spot, put the details in a short brief, and book 2 to 6 weeks ahead depending on the season. The six steps below take ten minutes and prevent the problem that spoils balloon twisting: a queue that never ends.
Step 1: count the guests who will want a balloon
Count the children, plus any adults who are likely to join in at a corporate event. Then note the ages. Children of 3 to 5 like simple animals and flowers. Children of 6 to 9 want bigger, more detailed pieces, which take a little longer. Give the team the full age spread, not only the birthday child's age.
Step 2: match artists and hours to that number
One artist makes about 15 to 25 simple pieces an hour, at 2 to 4 minutes each.
- Up to about 15 to 20 children: one artist, 1 hour
- 20 to 30 children: one artist, 2 hours
- More than 60 to 80 guests in a fixed window: two or more artists
- 200 or more guests over a few hours: two to four artists rotating
Private events usually have a 1 hour minimum, and corporate events a 2 hour minimum.
Step 3: choose roving or a station
Roving suits parties, receptions and lawns where guests are spread out. A station suits booths, roadshows and launches where you want one spot, a visible queue and your branding behind it. At a big event, one of each covers both.
Step 4: pick the spot
For a station, clear a corner with a small table, away from the door and the food, 10 to 15 minutes before the start. For roving, tell the artist where to leave a bag. Outdoors, choose shade or a tent, and ask about biodegradable latex. Hotels and malls may restrict helium and need vendors registered in advance.
Step 5: write the brief
Put these in one message:
- Date, start time and hours
- Venue, and indoors or outdoors
- Number of children and their ages, plus adults who may join in
- Roving or a station
- Any theme or colours, and any custom character or branded shape (asked in advance, SGD 50 to 150 extra per design)
- Any latex allergy among the guests
- Other acts, such as a face painter
Step 6: book at the right time
Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead for a normal birthday party, and earlier for weekends in the June, November and December school holidays. December and Chinese New Year are the tightest. Corporate events at major venues should confirm 4 to 6 weeks ahead for vendor passes and access.
What it costs
A birthday party usually costs SGD 250 to 320 for 1 hour and SGD 380 to 480 for 2 hours. Corporate bookings with 1 to 2 artists for 2 hours usually cost SGD 500 to 800. See the full price guide.
