Balloon artists for school and community events in Singapore

A school carnival can bring hundreds of children to one hall in an afternoon. The right number of balloon artists, a quick design list and a tidy queue mean every child gets a balloon before the bell.

At a school carnival, a fun fair, a Children's Day celebration or a community centre open day, balloons are a simple win: every child takes something home, and the artist needs no stage or power. The challenge is scale. Hundreds of children may arrive in a short window, so the plan is about numbers and the queue more than about designs.

Price: a 2 hour school or community booking with 1 to 2 balloon artists usually costs SGD 500 to 800, and 3 to 4 hours with 2 to 4 artists usually costs SGD 900 to 1,800. A small class party can start at SGD 250 to 320 for 1 hour. See the balloon artist price guide.

Work out the numbers first

Start from the children, not from the budget. One artist makes about 15 to 25 simple pieces an hour. A carnival of 150 children over 3 hours therefore needs at least two artists, and more if most of them come in the first hour. Past 60 to 80 children in a fixed window, book two or more artists from the start. For 200 or more, two to four artists rotating is the usual plan.

Keep the design list short

At a long queue, speed matters more than detail. Ask the artists to keep to quick designs from the standard set: dogs, swords, flowers and hats. Save custom characters for smaller events, because they take longer and cost extra. If the school has colours, say so when you book, and the standard pieces can be made in them.

Set up for an orderly queue

  • Give each artist their own spot, a few metres apart, so the lines do not merge.
  • Put a teacher or a volunteer at the front of each line to keep it moving.
  • Choose a covered spot: a school hall, a covered court or a void deck. Rain and direct sun both make a long outdoor queue hard.
  • Have a clear end time for the queue, so the artists can finish the last child before pack-down.

Next to other stalls

Balloon artists sit well next to face painting, game stalls and food at a carnival. Spread the kids stations around the hall so the crowds do not meet in one place. For two stations in one booking, see balloon twisting and face painting.

Allergies and outdoor notes

Tell parents in advance that balloons will be at the event, and tell the team about any child with a latex allergy. For outdoor events, ask about biodegradable latex.

Book early for the busy months

Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead for a normal date, and earlier for events near the June, November and December school holidays. Send the date, the venue, the hours and the number of children on WhatsApp or through the quote form. For company events with families, see balloon artists for corporate family days.

Questions people ask

How many balloon artists do we need for a school carnival?

One artist makes about 15 to 25 simple pieces an hour. Divide the number of children who will want a balloon by that, then by the hours. Past 60 to 80 children in a fixed window, book two or more. For 200 or more, plan on two to four artists rotating.

How much do balloon artists for a school event cost?

A 2 hour booking with 1 to 2 artists usually costs SGD 500 to 800. Longer events of 3 to 4 hours with 2 to 4 artists usually cost SGD 900 to 1,800.

How do we keep the queue short?

Limit the menu to quick designs such as dogs, swords and flowers, book enough artists, and give each artist a separate spot so the lines do not merge.

What if a child has a latex allergy?

Tell the team when you book, and keep that child and the balloons apart. Let parents know in advance that balloons will be at the event.
