A balloon artist is one of the easiest acts to add to a kids birthday party in Singapore. The artist needs no stage, no sound system and very little space, and works just as well in an HDB living room as in a condo function room, at a void deck or in a hotel. Every child gets something to hold and take home, and the birthday child can be first in line for a crown or a favourite animal.
Price: a balloon artist for a birthday party in Singapore usually costs SGD 250 to 320 for 1 hour and SGD 380 to 480 for 2 hours. See the balloon artist price guide for every option.
How long to book
A simple piece takes 2 to 4 minutes, so one artist makes about 15 to 25 an hour. For a small party of up to 15 to 20 children, 1 hour is enough. For 20 to 30 children, or if you want everyone to get a second piece, book 2 hours. Private bookings usually carry a 1 hour minimum. If 60 or more children are coming, book two artists so nobody waits too long.
Where the balloons fit in the party
A typical 2 hour kids party runs like this: about 20 minutes of arrival and free play, then the main activity, then a second activity such as balloons, face painting or a mascot photo slot, and the cake and goodbye bags in the last half hour. The balloon artist can also work through the whole party, which keeps the children busy while guests arrive.
What the children get
The standard design set covers simple animals, swords, flowers, hats, crowns and easy characters. Children of 3 to 5 are happiest with a simple animal or a flower. Children of 6 to 9 ask for bigger, more detailed pieces. From about age 10, simple acts start to lose children, so for older groups plan balloons as one activity among others. Tell the team the full age range, not only the birthday child's age.
Theme parties
If the party has a theme, such as dinosaurs, princesses or superheroes, tell the team the theme and the colours when you book. Standard shapes in your colours are part of the normal booking. A specific character is a custom design, costs extra and must be asked for in advance. Licensed characters may be declined for copyright reasons.
Venue notes
Condo function rooms are flexible but small, which limits how many performers can work at once. At a void deck, plan for wet weather. Hotels and larger venues may need vendors on a list in advance. Clear a corner for the artist 10 to 15 minutes before the start. The artist arrives 15 to 30 minutes early.
Add face painting
Balloons and face painting are the most common pair at Singapore birthday parties, and one booking for both usually costs less. See balloon twisting and face painting.
Book for the party
Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead for a normal weekend, and earlier for the June, November and December school holidays and Chinese New Year. Send the date, the venue and the number of children on WhatsApp or through the quote form. The hiring guide has a checklist for the brief.
